A professional and organized individual to carry out on behalf of the department the Cabinet's climate change directives into the development of a National Climate Change Response Policy, the Minister of Environment and Tourism has announced a multi-stakeholder policy development summit to be held from 3-6 March 2009.
This 3 and half day summit will involve a complex programme and numerous speakers and presenters including Ministers and Deputy Ministers, senior officials from all spheres of government, international dignitaries and experts, regional officials, Business, Industry, NGOs and CBOs.
Furthermore, in the run-up to the summit, or as a follow-up to the summit, numerous other climate change related events are planned that will need to be coordinated with the programme and/or outcomes of the summit (e.g. Johannesburg’s, Danida supported, Municipal Climate Change Conference).
Experience from the department’s 2005 National Climate Change Conference highlighted the need and importance of having a dedicated person available to manage the conference programme/content and who also coordinates participants, stakeholders and related-events.
