Overall the Programme runs for 5 years with a total budget of 220 million Danish Kroner - ~ ZAR350 million at current exchange rates (April 2008). It responds to South African priorities, as well as international aid priorities of sustainable development, poverty reduction and the efforts to achieve multiple targets in the Millennium Development Goals.
Activities are generally prioritized, planned and implemented by the ten Programme partners, overseen by the Programme Steering Committee. In this way the activities are conducted in all three government spheres of South Africa, national provincial and municipal. The activities all relate to one of the 5 environ themes of the Programme: Air Quality, Environmental Health, Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Public planning and Waste management.
